My heart soared with pride when I heard 17 year-old Malala Yousafzai won the Nobel Peace Prize. When she overcame all odds, as young Malala did after she suffered a gunshot wound by the Taliban in 2012, and the aftermath which followed, she also showed us exactly what we, as human beings are capable of.
Malala is known for human rights advocacy for education, and for women in her native Swat Valley, in Pakistan, where the local Taliban had at times banned girls from attenting school; this has since grown into an international movement which led 17 year-old Malala Yousafzai to win the Nobel Peace Prize on October 9, 2014 for her continued work in human rights, and to end the of persecution of women.
When it comes to over coming the most extreme odds we could ever experience in life, as young Malala did, she is a shinning example of what we can accomplish when we believe in ourselves, in our capabilities, and in the goodness of others.
Malala, you are my personal hero, and an amazing example of heart, integrity, and determination, but most of all in spite of what happened to you, your faith in humanity never wavered, and for this we are so proud of you!
